Jerry Bridges in his book “The Transforming Power of the Gospel” deals with the matter of personal holiness which he describes as “spiritual transformation”. One chapter is entitled “dependent responsibility” where he discusses the mysterious truth that while we know that God is working within us to transform us, we still need to fulfil OUR responsibilities of remaining in Christ, of keeping in step with Holy Spirit and of working out our own salvation. This is a constant reality today as we seek to live FOR the Lord and live IN the Lord during these difficult and uncertain days.
We praise the Lord that during this past month we have been able to do more active ministry for which we are truly grateful. Andy taught a Mukhanyo course at the Bible School in Empangeni. Our ZEMA colleague Marius Swart also taught a course and it was good to also fellowship with the Baptist pastor Shadrack Khumalo and another Baptist pastor from Bulwer, Eric Ntuli. After teaching Andy left Heather with Casi on the Friday and travelled to Matatiele on the Saturday to participate in an ordination of one of our bishops. This was very different to the traditional ordinations where there are many rituals and the use of colourful robes and sashes. The bishop wore his ZEBS graduation gown and sash to show that he has been taught the Word of God. He and his customary wife also got “legally married” on the same day before he was ordained. So it was a great time of celebration and rejoicing in how God uses the teaching from His Word to change hearts lives and churches.
Andy also ministered to pastors fraternal in Phoenix, an area that was badly affected by the recent rioting and looting. Many of the pastors were present during the rioting and some feared for their lives and still do because of the racial tension between Blacks and Indians.
We held a ZEFA Executive meeting on Saturday 28th August. We had planned to spend the weekend at Sunbury but many could not attend because of other responsibilities. So we had a “virtual meeting” using WhatsApp Chat. We are uncertain about holding our Annual Conference in October when we have around 200 – 230 people attending with people sleeping on mattresses and the rooms being very full. Sunbury has now limited attendance to the number of beds (132). Depending on lockdown restrictions, we may only be allowed 50% of occupancy so will have to restrict the numbers to maybe one or two people per church or church group. Please pray for wisdom and guidance as these are indeed difficult days to plan for the future.
FAMILY NEWS: August was BIRTHDAY MONTH. We celebrated Heather’s birthday while in Empangeni and was able to be with Andrea on her birthday and went out for a meal the night before Raiden’s birthday. Pray for Kirsten who is recovering from an operation to deal with her endometriosis. Casi will be working extra hours as one of her colleagues is on maternity leave until January.
Thank you for your faithful prayers and loving support.
