"And pray with/in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints." (Eph 6:18)
Warm greetings from us here at Union Bible Institute! Thank you for supporting us at UBI in prayer and in finances. You are God’s provision to us and to UBI. Here is a short synopsis of the last 3 months.
Municipal Rates and Taxes Crisis
:- About five years ago UBI was transferred from Howick Municipality to Msunduzi Municipality (Pietermaritzburg). This led to some major headaches, like the 14 month delay to get building plans approved. However, the biggest crisis came when we received major bills for rates and taxes, despite our explanation that we received a 80% dis-count from Howick on the basis of being an accredited tertiary educational institution. The debt each month kept escalating with interest being charged as well. When it reached the 1 million mark late last year we were really panicking. Letters, emails, visits, phone calls and earnest prayer.
Then came the email we could hardly believe!
We are exempt from all rates and taxes, and our debt has been cancelled!! Praise the Lord with us!!! He has intervened on our behalf!!
July – 4
Most things were back to normal at UBI last term, except for the adher-ence to Covid-19 regulations. Though we had 4 stu-dents who got infected in July through family mem-bers, they were able to resume their studies after the required quarantine. All of them had very mild symp-toms. Last Term I taught Eschatology to the 2
Years during the mornings and then to the part time students in the evenings. A course which I enjoy teaching, because most of our students have never studied the subject or questioned the popular pre-trib-ulational rapture view! I also helped with the Kairos course in Missions 2.
Sept – 28
:- By God’s grace most of our students have returned for the final term of the year. (A few are still seeking financial assis-tance.) The good news is that none of our students have been infected with Covid-19 during the past 2 months. This Term I am teaching the Epistle to the He-brews to the 2
Years (B.Th students) & Homi-letics to the 1
Years. Wes Spradley, who normally comes to teach at UBI for one term, was unable to come from the US this year, but is able to teach 2 courses very effectively via Skype & a data projector.
Jonathan & Estelle in Kalgoorlie, Western Aus-tralia
:- We are excited to announce that Es-telle is expecting their 1
child in March 2021. Please pray with us for God’s blessing of a healthy and per-fect child.
1. Praise God that none of our students have been infected with the Corona Virus during August and September.
2. Praise God for the miraculous cancellation of UBI’s major debt of municipal rates and taxes.
1. Please pray for God’s work in the life of each stu-dent entrusted to us. Pray that their lives will be transformed by the power of God’s Spirit as they study at UBI. Another student has been suspended for 2 years because of an immoral incident.
2. Please pray for our 3
Years who will graduate at the end of Nov. Pray that the last 2 months at UBI will be special for each of them and that their churches will soon place them in ministry.
3. Please pray for us as staff as we try to assist 1
Years students, who are struggling with their stud-ies on the tertiary level.
4. Please pray that students will be able to pay their fees for Term 4.
:- This newsletter comes with our sin-cere love and deep appreciation for your willingness to continue your partnership with us in our ministry at UBI. We count it a privilege to be here at UBI and thank you for making it possible. Term 1 next year will most likely be my last month of teaching fulltime at UBI. We will give you more information in Dec!
We sincerely pray for God’s protection from the Covid-19 infection and His financial provision in your lives during these days of extreme economic instabil-ity and uncertainty. "
We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield
" (Ps 33:20).
Yours in the bond of Christ’s love, Richard & Val
